Prof. Costas Kadis is the founder and the first Head of the Nature Conservation Unit.
He graduated from the Department of Biology - University of Athens in 1991 and received a PhD from the same Department in 1995. His PhD dissertation focused on the reproductive biology and conservation of the most threatened plants of Cyprus. Prof. Kadis attended other post graduate courses, including the "Teaching in Natural Sciences" Course at the University of Athens - Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Philosophy, Education and Psychology, the Intensive Course on "Mediterranean Landscape Ecology" at the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies - Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania and the training course on "Approaches to the administration of publicly funded scientific research in the USA" at Cornell University (Office for Research).
His professional career begun at the University of Athens, where he worked as a postgraduate and postdoctoral researcher and participated in several research projects aiming at biodiversity conservation in Greece and Cyprus.
In 1996 he returned to Cyprus and joined Enalion Environmental Management Centre of the Cyprus Development Bank, as a scientific consultant.
In 1998 he joined the Research Promotion Foundation, thus becoming the first permanent staff member of the Foundation. He served the Foundation from the positions of the Officer, First Officer, Head of Unit and Deputy Director General. During his service at the Research Promotion Foundation, he represented Cyprus in several Committees of the European Commission dealing with research issues.
In 2005 he joined the faculty of Frederick University and established the Nature Conservation Unit within the University. Since then he has coordinated numerous research projects led by the Nature Conservation Unit.
Prof. Kadis has participated in many local and international professional conferences, where he has presented the results of his scientific work. He has been among the authors of books, several scientific articles, published in international journals and proceedings of professional conferences, after peer review. Moreover, his published work includes several research reports and environmental impact assessments.
He has been member of several scientific committees in the fields of Research and Environment, in Cyprus and abroad.
Prof. Kadis served as Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus from July 2007 to February 2008. In March 2008 and until February 2014 he was appointed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus as the Leader of the Greek Cypriot Technical Committee on the Environment, which was established within the framework of the effort for the resolution of the Cyprus problem.
From January to February 2014 he served as the President of the Council of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) and from March 2014 to February 2018 he served as Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.
Since March 2018 he serves as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus.
