Astragalus macrocarpus
DC. subsp. lefkarensis Kirchoff & Meikle

Perennial plant (lives for several years), 50-100 cm high.

It is found only in Cyprus (endemic sub-species of Cyprus) in shrubs (low vegetation) with limestone and volcanic soils (75-700 m).

Today it is known from 6 locations: Over Lefkara, Asgata, Kelokedara, Alaminos, Koloni and Kormakitis.

It was described for the first time in 1976 by the botanists Agerer-Kirchoff and Meikle.

Astragalus macrocarpus subsp. lefkarensis is included in Annex II of Directive 92/43/EEC as a priority species and in Appendix I of the Bern Convention as a strictly protected species.
